Bio

Cass Fisher is an Assistant Professor in Religious Studies. His areas of research are Jewish studies and philosophy of religion. Dr. Fisher received his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago. As a Lilly Fellow, Dr. Fisher taught a course on Jewish mysticism at Northwestern University. His current research project is a philosophical analysis of Jewish theological language that utilizes texts from the ancient and modern periods. In this study, Dr. Fisher synthesizes resources from philosophical hermeneutics and analytic religious epistemology to better understand the diverse forms of Jewish theological language and the relationship between religious language and religious practice in the Jewish tradition. Dr. Fisher’s research on theological language is intended to serve as a prolegomenon to future studies of basic questions in the philosophy of religion as refracted through classic Jewish sources.
