UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH FLORIDA, Tampa, Florida. The Department of Religious Studies invites applications for an Associate Professor position in Islam. We are especially interested in scholars with interests in Islam in Asian cultural contexts and/or in contemporary Islam, and/or scholars who will be able to contribute to the Ph.D. program in Philosophy and Religion. Candidates must show continuing promise of excellence in scholarship and evidence of successful and effective teaching. Candidates must be able to teach Qur’anic Arabic. Anticipated teaching load is 2/2. Applicants will be expected to participate fully in university and departmental service. A Ph.D. in Religious Studies or related field with specialization in Islamic Studies is required. The Department of Religious Studies at USF emphasizes the interdisciplinary study of religion, culture, and society. It offers the B. A. and the M. A. in Religious Studies, and participates in a Joint Ph.D. program in Philosophy and Religion with the Philosophy Department. We presently have 12 fulltime Faculty, upwards of 180 undergraduate majors, and 80 graduate majors. Salary is negotiable. Anticipated date of appointment: August 7, 2010.
