Summer Language Program

The aim of the Department of Religious Studies Summer Language Program is to provide students with beginning and advance training in some of the textual languages of the major religious traditions of the world – Aramaic, Biblical Greek, Classical Chinese, Pali, Sanskrit, and Qur’anic Arabic.  On a rotating basis, the Summer Program will provide participants the opportunity to complete a full year of college language instruction during a twelve-week summer session.

Summer 2007 Courses

  • Introduction to Biblical Hebrew
  • Introduction to Sanskrit Language and Literature

2006 Summer Language Courses will be taught in two six-week semester.  The completion of both semesters is equal to a full year-course, yielding 6 credit hours.  All courses carry University of South Florida credit.  If you are a student at another institution, contact the dean or advisor at your home institution to determine the procedure for credit transfer between institutions.

Registration Information
Participation in the Summer Language program is contingent upon enrollment at the University of South Florida – Tampa.  Students from other institutions register as Non-degree seeking students.  Application information and forms are available through the University Admissions office.

Housing Accommodations
It is the responsibility of each student attending the Summer Language Program to secure housing arrangements before arriving on campus.  The Department of Religious Studies is not responsible of making housing arrangements for participants in the Summer Language Program.

  • On campus housing is limited to regularly matriculated USF Students.  Students should individually contact the office of Residence Services in order to make arrangements for summer on-campus housing.
  • One option for Non-USF students interested in housing for the duration of the Summer Language Program may be to contact The Edge at 42nd St, a privately owned and operated student residence facility on the edge of the USF-Tampa campus.
  • Both USF and non-USF student may also make off-campus housing arrangements.
